The Loneliest World

A Little background information on how this poem came to be.

I wrote this poem when I was touched by a comment given to me by a sixteen year old student. They expressed how much they liked my writing and so I explored their blog. To my unsuspecting surprise they talked about how they had no meaning to live at times and that they had cut themselves to inflict pain. I spoke with my daughter about it and she said that some of her friends did that as well. When I went on the internet I was amazed on how so many youths are desperate for love and attention and understanding and are doing this same terrible act. So I wrote this poem for them. I don't think they ever came back to my site and I haven't gone back to theirs. I think everyone at times feels some of the pain I tried to describe in the poem and hopefully they wouldn't feel all alone in this world.

"Lonely Day"

Such a lonely day
Shouldn't exist
It's a day that I'll never miss
Such a lonely day
And its mine
The most loneliest day of my life

~System of a Down~

I love this song .It was one of those things among other contributing factors that inspired me to write this poem ~ "The Loneliest World" This poem is for whoever has at one time or other felt lonely, lost, unwanted and unloved. This poem is for you

"The Loneliest World"

People are strange
When you are lonely
Life has no meaning
No place for you only

The pain in my mind,
My body, my soul
Is a reaction
To feeling unwanted

These crazy ideas
Filling my mind
Are only but dreams
Of darkness and light

The pain I inflict
On my soul
Is only but
A desperate call

Please hear me
I beg
I have no meaning
For life to extend

Solitude and loneliness
Are the friends
That I have
In this hollow space I call home

I have time without end
To think of the reasons
Why, I haven't earned
This justified love I deserve

People are distant
When you are lonely
They don’t understand
How much love you desperately need

This feeling I have of unwanted
Is only a reaction
Of being alone in this empty void
Of the loneliest world that I own

People are cold
In this world filled with disorder
Too busy
In their selfish universe
To even notice
Anyone other then them

This solitude and loneliness
My intimate friends
Speak to me
In the darkness and light
Telling me that
Everything will be alright

I cannot forget that
It’s only a feeling I get
When I'm alone in this desolate space
Feeling discarded and lost
In the loneliest world that own

Sometimes the lonliest place to be is in a crowd, with people who don't understand.

Very moving and gives the words to such an inadequate emotional state.

Corey from Tongue in Cheek had this comment which she was unable to post:

In regards to cutting.
Sometimes young people have such a deep need, it creates an unbearable pain. That pain is more painful than being cut. And cutting helps release the feelings of pain, because they FEEL real pain in the cut, they see it and it brings relief, they can ache with a cut, they can FEEL it....that is what I have been told.

Thank you for your kind comment on my blog. Your poem is both beautiful and touching. I wish I could write poems like that. All I can do is rant to no end :)

You sound like a lovely person! I wish you all the best for you and your family. I hope that your daughter finds a partner in the near future. Ballroom dancing can bring so much excitement to one's life.

Take care and keep writing!

Twilight at Sea

The Twilight Hours like birds flew by,
As lightly and as free;
Ten thousand stars were in the sky,
Ten Thousand on the sea;
For every wave with dimpled face,
That leaped upon the air,
Had caught a star in its embrace,
And held it trembling there.
