***** Purrrfect Halloween Haunts *****

Happy Halloween

We will begin our haunting here in my home......For the past few weeks pumpkins were following me everywhere I went and when I came upon the Booutiful glass mosaic one at Homesense...about the size of my footstool all I thought about was how lovely it would be to have one, place it on four old rusty wheels and turn it into a pumpkin carriage but then this week I came across the actual Cinderella Pumpkins nurseries grow and after googling how to craft this particular kind of pumpkin the “Hallmark Carriage” came up.So here is my version .....

***** Cinderella's Haunted Ride *****

*** Cinderella's Haunted Ride ***

I cheated a bit for the pumpkin turned out to be a tad too heavy for the dowel axles they said to use so I improvised and used a wooden salad bowl to prop the pumpkin on and then just set the Turkish caps on the dowels and arranged them to look as if they are attached. As for the windows I was clean out of buckles and door pulls so I used antique frames I bought in Merrickville. For the top of the pumpkin I used a curtain finial and covered it loosely with Ferrero Rocher chocolate gold wrappers; who doesn't collect the wrappers for crafting. A chocolate I adore and a wrapper for sooo many crafting uses … an essential in my crafting cabinet!!!

Here you will find the instructions for Cinderella's Carriage.

*** A Witch's Study 1313 ***
My hat...a Witch's hat I bought at Walmart and eventually covered it with an old black velvet dress I wore to my husband's Century party for Domtar before the plant closed. I was going to donate it or cut it up but I changed my mind and it now remains intact...a purrrfect fit for a Witch's Hat lampshade.

***** Boo *****

*** BOO ***

An inspiration devired from the movie "Black Christmas"...where Billy is hiding in the closet, Halloween and the book and movie "To Kill a Mockingbird".."Boo Radley"..my favorite novel.I bought this frame this past Spring at a church sale and when I went to add a picture inside I noticed the hole in the wood backing and thought it was better left uncovered and used for something creative...surprisenly I'm not spooked by it! It rests above my desk in my study.

***** Little Hoot *****

*** Little Hoot ***
*** The Haunted Tree ***

A small little salt shaker I bought a very long time ago. She looks quite cute in her Witch's hat.

*** Vintage Owl Light ***
Not in my favorite color but the novelty of the light and being an owl I couldn't pass this little magical fellow up. I adore Owls! Thinking of altering....just don't know what element I'll use.

*** Spooky NIght ***

My daughter Em decorated the fireplace this year and decided to use black tulle, orange lights and my vintage owl lamp.I like him more in the dark since I'm not too fond of his exterior finish. Still debating how to alter him.

And now ....are you ready for a Haunting????
Then step thru this door and come see what I have found....

p.s. working on creating an actual door for next time.....Hehehe!Later...

So the kids and dad are now elbowing deep in sticky orange creating their mysterious little creatures. Won’t be long ………

Like always I find meaning in music and art and this song seemed to speak to me of Michael today.

“The Travelling Song”…by WILL.I.AM

“Could I have someone, could I have someone,
To relate to, to relate to”

……I think many of us could relate to Michael and him likewise.

Take me to a place, where they know my name
Cause I ain't met nobody that looks the same”

*** The Dreaming of a Dream ~ Hammer Horror and more Horror ***

The night was dark, cold, and wet; interrupted from my dream, rain besieged my quite sleep.
Bleary eyed I peered into the darkness... what a perfect stage for watching some very chilling horrifying tales ; preferably the ones I used to watch back when I was a child...the Hammer Horror kind of Dream.
********************************************

Hammer Horror Films, the studio out of England that produced all the Vampire and Dracula movies from the early 50’s to the 70’s was something I discovered early in my childhood and two of my very much loved actors of that period who made these films memorable were Peter Cushing and Sir Christopher Lee who together starred in over twenty titles such as “Dracula”, "The Mummy", "Tales from the Crypt", "The Creeping Flesh" "The Skull", "The House that Dripped Blood", and " The Beast Must Die" among many other magic terrors.

Dracula

It was the chemistry and friendship of these two beloved English actors that part of my passion and fascination with England grew! I absolutely adore these two charming actors!
And then there were the settings Hammer Studios created as backdrops accompanied by gorgeous beautiful eerie music, beautiful women and handsome Vampires and Dracula’s. It was forever imprinted in my brain and their magic potion was undeniably one of the best combined in delivering gothic horror at its best.

Peter Cushing and Sir Christopher Lee were brilliant at their craft and I never tried, even to this day I look forward to whenever I can to view some of their unforgettable performances and leave this world for an evening of travel to some strange and beautiful land; that’s what great cinema is to me and Hammer, Peter Cushing and Christopher Lee for all time transported me to these surreal places.

The two charming gentlemen became not only a great pair on screen but embraced a friendship that would last a life time until Peter Cushing’s death. Sir Christopher Lee on several occasions was quoted as saying this about his dear friend…
"I don`t want to sound gloomy, but, at some point of your lives, every one of you will notice that you have in your life one person, one friend whom you love and care for very much. That person is so close to you that you are able to share some things only with him. For example, you can call that friend, and from the very first maniacal laugh or some other joke you will know who is at the other end of that line. We used to do that with him so often. And then when that person is gone, there will be nothing like that in your life ever again”.
“He really was the most gentle and generous of men. I have often said he died because he was too good for this world.”

And a fine friend he must have been for many a time after watching a actor in many of their films, one gets to know their mannerisms well and a little glimpse of their true nature filters thru, like seeing a visible ghost, something in the actor that a viewer like myself can relate to on a personal level be it the smallest peculiarity the actor exposes.

Of course there is also the little things I learned about him that made all the more sense why I loved this dear fellow so. He loved painting water colors of his beloved England; he pressed flowers in his journals, adored nature and watching birds and more endearing was the fact of his strong love for his wife Helen.; I can relate well to these humanly traits.

When his dear wife Helen passed on he was quoted saying “When Helen passed on six years ago I lost the only joy in life that I ever wanted. She was my whole life and without her there is no meaning. I am simply killing time, so to speak, until that wonderful day when we are together again.”

“Since Helen passed on I can’t find anything; the heart, quite simply, has gone out of everything. Time is interminable, the loneliness is almost unbearable and the only thing that keeps me going is the knowledge that my dear Helen and I will be united again some day. To join Helen is my only ambition. You have my permission to publish that... really, you know dear boy, it’s all just killing time. Please say that. - Radio Times 1972 Peter Cushing

Yes, Peter Cushing had that magic aura about him I could individually identify with, it made him real, a real person, not just a character on a roll of film. His magic and twinkle in his eyes spoke of a kind and gentle man unpretentious in any way; a pleasant thoughtful fellow one would adore meeting. Unfortunately I never did get my chance in meeting him as I had wished when I was small but I do have the memories of his work left behind to enjoy his kindly presence and keep the beautiful quotes Sir Christopher Lee said of his dear, dear friend.

Sir Christopher Lee to this day I believe still prefers in being dubbed an actor of the “The theatre of the fantastique" rather than of “Horror” a word much disliked by him as well as other famous Horror actors such as Boris Karloff and Lon Chaney but as for myself I prefer the word for it describes the name of the studio I fell in love with many years ago and the actors who starred in its gothic tales.

Although Sir Christopher Lee disliked the word “Horror” he made it very clear his gratitude for “ Hammer Studios; “ I`ve always acknowledged my debt to Hammer. I`ve always said I`m very grateful to them. They gave me this great opportunity, made me a well-known face all over the world for which I am profoundly grateful.”

It's the power of these two men and an English Studio that throughout their repertoire you'll find Gothic Horror Tales that will take you away from wherever you happen to be and place you in “The Theatre of the Fantastique”!!!The Dreaming of a Dream Begins****

***** The House Of Long Shadows *****

On Vincent Price and Peter Cushing *** "They were both grand masters, of their art but more importantly as human beings...wonderful people, wonderful actors and I miss them very very much"....Christopher Lee

John Carradine,Peter Cushing, Christopher Lee, Vincent Price

“Hammer Horror” a brilliant song written by another astounding, innovative and highly creative artist Kate Bush( British of course)who through her music paints visionary dreams. The plot is about an understudy who kills a play's main protagonist to steal the part from her or him, the name “Hammer Horror” of course points to the English Studio “Hammer Films” and doubly to the theme of the song I would imagine… the horror of the actor’s present circumstance.

*** Don't Give Up ***

**** Back to Reality Just for One Moment ****

Paying bills this morning; seems there is never enough for the LADIDA!!!!HEHE!
Oh well, we still have what counts!

Two very creative artists whom I have adored forever...Once we were young!
**** Our Memories are Truly Precious Treasures **** >^..^<

Don't give up

In this proud land we grew up strong
We were wanted all along
I was taught to fight, taught to win
I never thought I could fail

No fight left or so it seems
I am a man whose dreams have all deserted
Ive changed my face, Ive changed my name
But no one wants you when you lose

Dont give up
cos you have friends
Dont give up
Youre not beaten yet
Dont give up
I know you can make it good

Though I saw it all around
Never thought I could be affected
Thought that wed be the last to go
It is so strange the way things turn

Drove the night toward my home
The place that I was born, on the lakeside
As daylight broke, I saw the earth
The trees had burned down to the ground

Dont give up
You still have us
Dont give up
We dont need much of anything
Dont give up
cause somewhere theres a place
Where we belong

Rest your head
You worry too much
Its going to be alright
When times get rough
You can fall back on us
Dont give up
Please dont give up

got to walk out of here
I cant take anymore
Going to stand on that bridge
Keep my eyes down below
Whatever may come
And whatever may go
That rivers flowing
That rivers flowing

Moved on to another town
Tried hard to settle down
For every job, so many men
So many men no-one needs

Dont give up
cause you have friends
Dont give up
Youre not the only one
Dont give up
No reason to be ashamed
Dont give up
You still have us
Dont give up now
Were proud of who you are
Dont give up
You know its never been easy
Dont give up
cause I believe theres the a place
Theres a place where we belong

My sister-in-law, Laura sent me this and since I think I have reached my limit in forwarding messages I thought this to be quite appropriate to this morning's theme. Actually I agree with much of what George Carlin said here!
Thanks again Laura >^..^<

The paradox of our time in history is that we have taller buildings but shorter tempers, wider Freeways , but narrower viewpoints. We spend more, but have less, we buy more, but enjoy less. We have bigger houses and smaller families, more conveniences, but less time. We have more degrees but less sense, more knowledge, but less judgment, more experts, yet more problems, more medicine, but less wellness.

We drink too much, smoke too much, spend too recklessly, laugh too little, drive too fast, get too angry, stay up too late, get up too tired, read too little, watch TV too much, and pray too seldom.

We have multiplied our possessions, but reduced our values. We talk too much, love too seldom, and hate too often.

We've learned how to make a living, but not a life. We've added years to life not life to years. We've been all the way to the moon and back, but have trouble crossing the street to meet a new neighbor. We conquered outer space but not inner space. We've done larger things, but not better things.

We've cleaned up the air, but polluted the soul. We've conquered the atom, but not our prejudice. We write more, but learn less. We plan more, but accomplish less. We've learned to rush, but not to wait. We build more computers to hold more information, to produce more copies than ever, but we communicate less and less.

These are the times of fast foods and slow digestion, big men and small character, steep profits and shallow relationships. These are the days of two incomes but more divorce, fancier houses, but broken homes. These are days of quick trips, disposable diapers, throwaway morality, one night stands, overweight bodies, and pills that do everything from cheer, to quiet, to kill. It is a time when there is much in the showroom window and nothing in the stockroom. A time when technology can bring this letter to you, and a time when you can choose either to share this insight, or to just hit delete...

Remember; spend some time with your loved ones, because they are not going to be around forever.

Remember, say a kind word to someone who looks up to you in awe, because that little person soon will grow up and leave your side.

Remember, to give a warm hug to the one next to you, because that is the only treasure you can give with your heart and it doesn't cost a cent.

Remember, to say, ' I love you ' to your partner and your loved ones, but most of all mean it. A kiss and an embrace will mend hurt when it comes from deep inside of you.

Remember to hold hands and cherish the moment for someday that person will not be there again.

Give time to love, give time to speak! And give time to share the precious thoughts in your mind.

****Oh and to everyone that has left me a comment I will get back to you as soon as possible....or come to your Halloween Ball....luv the little secret notes....Thanks so much for stopping by!!! *** >^..^<

A little busy at the moment working on graphics and mostly on house duties and tending to the little kiddings...hehehehe.....

The song you are listening to is from the Halloween Movie "Hocus Pocus "

Sarah's Song from *** Hocus Pocus ***

Come, little children
I'll take thee away
Into a land of enchantment
Come, little children
The time's come to play
Here in my garden of magic

An inspiration derived from an Edgar Allan Poe Poem entitled "Come Little Children"***** Poem follows

Come little children
I'll take thee away, into a land
of Enchantment

Come little children
the time's come to play
here in my garden
of Shadows

Follow sweet children
I'll show thee the way
through all the pain and
the Sorrows

Weep not poor childlen
for life is this way
murdering beauty and
Passions

Hush now dear children
it must be this way
to weary of life and
Deceptions

Rest now my children
for soon we'll away
into the calm and
the Quiet

Come little children
I'll take thee away, into a land
of Enchantment

Come little children
the time's come to play
here in my garden
of Shadows

*** Flora and The Ghost Ball ***

*****A poem and story written a few years back and since at the moment I don't have a clue on how to add links for "you may also like this" I am reprinting the post for this Halloween Season.

Flora

Moss covered trees; they lined the path to either side of me
With limbs outstretched, they touched and formed
An endless canopy in hues of velvet greens
This vacant road, so tenderly adored by these grand oaks
Led me in finding silence sleeping deeply in serenity

Look around; what do I see - flowers strewn and flowers dead
A sea of white on white, grey on grey and black to dark
Of body turned to stone, their words are now half spoken
Craved onto the surface of their sculptured ghostly effigies

Their shadows hide by day, by night they come
If it were night it wouldn’t feel right
But since its day I think its right
For I do see the peacefulness that’s here

Around a bend, some English daisies make my acquaintance
They rise in lively spirit from the dark depths of their grassy bed
This lonely cradle, long forgotten, has cared for them
And they in turn have called upon the sun onto its sunken crest
To warm and kiss its lovely breast

This stone is not alike the rest
It does not bear the name who lies in there
For what sits above the daisy covered knoll
Is but a open book with pages torn adorned in roses pink

To make of what it tells
Is hard when earth and wind and rain
Have washed away its mark, but still I try
For there was once a time
This place was truly theirs’

I bowed down to the earth and took a better look
I read and thought; is this, what’s left?
I could have sworn the words began to speak in whispers on the breeze
I may have thought or did I hear it say “I was”?

I looked away from the book made out of stone
And saw a vision sitting there- afar- with flowers in her hands
I knew the voice I’d heard had come from her
A long time past, she walked the earth
And loved the flowers, that now grow above her tomb

The moss she had treasured so
Now softly dressed the written pages of the book
The years that read were few, her youth cut short
Above the blue faint sky I heard the dawn bird’s song
Ethereal swirls of melodic notes played a choral symphony

A moment passed, the child like girl I’d seen, had gone
The intense beauty of the woodland music now had ended
The bird’s keen senses knew, now dark took over light,
Its ghostly shadow for a moment brushed the mossy tomb
A silence fell and then I heard large rain drops fall unto the granite stone
And like a hidden message written in unseen ink -revealed –
I saw my name, on the wet stone visibly appear.

~ Annabelle ~

The inspiration for this poem came from a visit to a cemetery during a soccer tournament out in Chesterville.I had noticed two tomb stones in the shape of books and instantly fell in love with them. My daughter Emma inspired me with the last paragraph of the poem when she pointed out to me how the dark had taken over the light over the entire farmer’s field on a walk with our dog Grace on the back roads of our home.
Even thou I said I was going back to the cemetery to take pics of the tomb stones I still haven't done so but maybe this coming weekend I may entice the family to go for a jaunt out there and maybe also visit two other cemeteries that I can think of this moment....just so peaceful and always inspiring!

A Haunted tree made just before my son was born.

The Ghost Ball

Walking along the undulating winding path, tall oaks stood on both sides of me. Their limbs touching but barren of their leaves made a dark brown lacey lattice against the cold October sky. The sun barely visible tried to peek through the blank canvas hardly keeping the earth warm. The air was still not a sound could be heard except for the shuffle of the oaks’ dead leafs underfoot and then the silence broke…. Overhead; a group of geese flew towards a warmer home.

Moments earlier I had visited my grandmother’s grave and had left her a posy of flowers for her birthday. Now in peaceful reflection I walked among the solid stones of marble and granite all bearing messages of love lost. I loved coming here. It was a sanctuary for me whenever I came. I could spend hours reading about the dearly departed and found inspiration in the decorative embellishments and inscribed messages of their tombs that told more than just their sad farewells.

A weeping willow on a grave; its branches covered in moss as if in full spring splendor silently shed the tears of loved ones left behind. A heart entwined in ivy; a testament of a strong and binding love. And then I saw a few small graves; one adorned with a little lamb and the other with an angel and puppy dog; they belonged to little children who had left this earth much too soon.

The day was cold and damp and I particularly wanted nothing more than to continue with the nostalgic memories but the cold became uncomforting and I was too cold and miserable to relinquish in this beautiful desolate place yet it was most appropriate for today was Hallows Eve. I hurried my pace still entranced by the scatterings of ghostly white tombs against the stark grey horizon. Suddenly the sun’s pale light touched upon the stone of an opened book, its pages torn; one last faded rose that had dropped from its branch that had hugged the tomb, now lay on the books’ leaf. Beneath the bush upon the torn page corner of the book; a glint of purple green twinkled through. I knelt down and touched the sparkle on the stone book revealing a violet purple amethyst covered in mossy greens. I grabbed the moisten jewel within my hand and quickly hurried back home.

The hearth felt good; my hands numb from the bitter cold and of the wet mossy jewel. I carefully laid the purple stone onto the mantle. It was round and rose shaped like you see in a church window. At a closer glance I noticed it had eight individual petals but they were scarcely noticeable from the moss that filled their voids. At each strut a rhinestone lay. It was truly a beautiful ornament from long, long ago; that it belonged to, would be a mystery.

With the entire hullabaloo that ensued I had completely forgotten that I had to create a witches hat for the ghost ball. Mom had kindly bought a witches hat ahead of time but I had dally too long to decorate it like I had wanted to and now I was in dire need to finish it on time. I gathered up the choice adornments and quickly adding the black spider brooch, the old rhinestone buckle, the large black velvet rose and the garland of small roses; their petals sprinkled with tear drops. Finally I added a touch of black tulle to create a filmy mysterious looking witches hat. There, I was done but something was not quite right. Yes, that’s what it was, a large gapping hole inside the buckle stared right back at me. I needed something for the buckle to frame.

Out of the blue the purple stone flashed a wink across the room. It would be perfect to adorn the witches’ hat with and especially beautiful inside the old rhinestone frame. I clumsily and eagerly tried pinning the flowered stone onto the hat. So stirred in seeing the end results that I pinned myself like I had become a pin cushion. After all the fuss was over, the hat was finally complete. A witch’s gothic hat dream had come true. I loved the look. I was all set for the ball.

Time was flying swiftly and so would this witch if she was to attend the Halloween Ball. I gathered all my costume attire, the cat, cape, boots, broom and bat and got dressed. I was the picture perfect gothic witch right out of the eighteen century. All that was left to do was to crown the costume with the witches’ hat that I had so proudly made. I entered the room which now had a glowing fire burning. The hat, has I had left it was still perched on the candelabra.

Approaching closer to the hearth, the purple stone of the jewel had fused together with the flames of the fire. Now the two were one and a dazzling sparkle danced across the room bouncing fragments of colorful purples and embers onto the crystal vases and glass of the room. The room spinned into a magical realm of a strange and different world distant and unknown to me; and then my eye caught something very strange indeed. Inside the fire in the embers of the flames a book lay open with pages written in old English. As I began to read the words penned in black ink a familiar music erringly faded in. I remembered the piece; it was “The Dance of the Mist”.

Upon the pages of the book was written “I hope to meet with thee again on Hallows Eve one time so I may alight in the “Ghostly Ball”. If you wear the hat and stone upon your head, I will be your companion for just this Hallows Eve and will return once a year upon the same night unless you desire to not make my company.”
Was it all just a dream; too tried and had probably fallen asleep? Wake up, wake up Leathor ; this can’t be real……only it was!
I had no fear but was only both intrigued and in disbelief of the whole affair that just had transpired. I wanted to believe!!!! So I put the witches’ hat upon my head…….

Beyond my glasses stood a young girl with fairies wings. I agitatedly took my glasses off and wiped the film from the lenses. I place them back unto the bridge of my nose and glanced towards where the young girl had stood. There she was, standing quietly and studying me; I now clearly saw she was only just a little girl of no more than twelve years old dressed in the most beautiful translucent gossamer and chiffon, yellow white gown. Her head crowned in daisies. Her whole attire in a sprinkling of fairy’s’ dust and her wings twinkled repeatedly with every flutter.

“Will thou be my friend to accompany to the Ghostly Ball?” My name is Flora and I know who you are she said in a faintly voice. You’re Leathor; I’ve watched you visiting at the Mount. The purple stone belongs to me and I have wished for centuries for someone to find it and pin it on a witch’s hat so that I may have another Ghostly Ball on Hallows Eve with all my dear and darling friends. Please say you’ll come.”

And so the little witch that wished to be a fairy for an eve and I, a witch who truly could make magic with her hat went off to the Ghostly Ball. Who was I to deny such a sweet little girl a Ghostly Ball on Hallows Eve with all her ghoulish, witches and fairy friends? I be a fool to decline the invitation; you’d never know what would come of it if you did.
I never ended up going to the Halloween Ball, in reality Flora and I danced the dance of the mist surrounded by Floras’ dearly departed friends at the Ghostly Ball on this very special Hallows Eve.

*** The Good Witch & The Good Witch's Garden ***

Not too long ago around mid summer my daughter and I decided to pay a visit to hubby up in Chalk River. One night my daughter asked me if I would be interested in watching two Witch movies with her that she had seen before and had liked very much and wanted to view once more; of course I accepted, I could never decline something dealing with practical magic!!!

Completely entranced by the end of the evening, even thou we had to watch the entire two movies in red due to a failing screen we were enthralled by the simplicitiy and pureness of a romantic old fashioned style tale.

Catherine Bell as Cassie Nightingale

For me it was like watching Bewitched all over again for Catherine Bell plays the Purrfect Witch and Chris Potter"Police Chief Jake Russell" as her paramour totally make the Purrrfect couple…special magic between the two I think! For that matter the entire cast is Purrrfectly matched!!!

If you have been like me and haven’t yet lay your eyes upon this tale please do watch both of these weaving magic flicks… “The Good Witch” & “The Good Witch's Garden” on the Hallmark channel for I’ll tell you they will definitely put a spell on you and Catherine Bell I forsee becoming everyone’s favorite burnette witch and will be looking for her store “Bell Book and Candle”, yes, no mistake same name as the old flick with Jimmy Stewart and Kim Novak …to find her!

Twilight at Sea

The Twilight Hours like birds flew by,
As lightly and as free;
Ten thousand stars were in the sky,
Ten Thousand on the sea;
For every wave with dimpled face,
That leaped upon the air,
Had caught a star in its embrace,
And held it trembling there.
