Deep Dark Sea Paint Party Friday ~ Week 4

Somewhere lost in a deep dark sea......surrounded only by the glimmer of the moon's beams washing upon the peaks of the turning waves.

I would like to take this opportunity to excuse myself for not being in attendance last Paint Party Friday....sometimes the nasty beasts of life need to be confronted and cast away and all our energies are called upon to help in the battle. Even looking for some refuge from the storm with some art therapy does not always work, especially so when one such as I lack all of the required knowledge in creating a painting.

Well, I' not going to keep this a secret, I failed miserably!!!
Maybe my subject wasn't an easy one although at the time I thought it was....the sea, yes, the sea.
It tricked me into thinking I could create a beautiful seascape....no such luck!
I'm embarresed to say I must of tried painting the sea 30 some times and right after each perfect wave I would mess up and back to the sink to wash away my mistakes and try again only to waste more paint ; luckily, I used cheap brands. Yes and the color changed drastically.....talk about looking into my soul these past few weeks....eek.....very down.

Anyway..... on the bright side of things,

The good that came out of this experience is that I discovered many techniques such as using alcohol, salt and feathers on wet paint and that I must do some reading on the art form, practice some more and be more patient and maybe not be so stressed before tackling the Deep Dark Sea.....or should I say the Deep Blue Sea?

So here is where I am at the moment............hehe .....same as before kind of.....lol!

And my shimmering waves.....Seriously need help!

Until next Paint Party Friday.....Happy Painting , I'll be in the lab.

Annabelle :(

p.s. Will be checking in on all the participating painters in the morning...picking up my mom from the airport tonight.

I think your waves are realistic. They scared me at first because I was reminded of those big waves that happened. Yes I think you did a good job. I like it! Thanks for sharing. Don't hit yourself over the head, it's good.

I like this one a lot, the nighttime effect is wonderful.

I'm not sure what you don't like about this, but it sure looks like moonlit waves to me! I like it!

Oh Annabelle, I understand...I almost didn't make it this week...I hadn't even picked up a paintbrush. You left me a comment saying where you would find the time to do all of these creative challenges and still live life...trust me, it is rather difficult to fit it all into the schedule which is already packed! I mean, I'm potty training my youngest...hard to switch to paint mode after that :) But then I see all you amazing artists and you all are taking your time to share and inspire each other, and I think that is an amazing thing!
I think your painting is deep and dark and mysterious and you should go with what is transpiring on the canvas...it may lead you to wonderful unexpectedness :)

I think the waves look great! You can see the sparkles from the moonlight but they're not too exaggerated. Very lovely.

The shimmering waves are long great. Don't think you need any help at all. Wonderful work! ;)

This is EXACTLY what waves look like in the moonlight! I think you captured it perfectly! I REALLY love where you are taking this and can't wait to see what you do next!

I really like how you have raised ... do not stress too much, the painting is to enjoy, if you do not get what you have in your head parks the project a while and when you do start back will be great, greetings

We're so happy to have you at the party whenever you can make it (so glad you did this week)!

I think the ocean is wonderful... You created such a mood, and it makes me wonder what is beneath the surface.

I'm so glad you posted this. It brought a vision to me. I see a white spirit - "Spirit of the Sea" painted over this rich, dark and mysterious sea with the light of the full moon magically illuminating everything =) Kathryn

I really love this! You created such a wonderful mood. Beautiful.

I can totally relate to how you're feeling. It's hard to be trying to paint what you want to paint and not have it turn out how you want it to. I struggle with the same thing constantly. I think your seascape looks lovely. The waves look moonlit and moody. Keep painting and don't worry so much!

EVA said...

Great to see you back! I think this has such a great mood - a dark and stormy night...

Or it also make me think of the oil spills with the shades of brown intermixed among the waves. Are you going to do more to the Moon?

EVA said...

P.S. I'm loving it!

Annabelle said...

Thanks everyone for the lovely comments. I'm not finished with the moon and yes there is something else that I want to add to the painting.
Like La Abela said to do....park it for a while. That I've done ....my attention at the moment is elsewhere.....serious illness in the family

Water is not that easy to capture, not in any medium (painting, photography, digital art.) The draemy / saprkly quality of yours is delightful.
Enjoy the process.

Twilight at Sea

The Twilight Hours like birds flew by,
As lightly and as free;
Ten thousand stars were in the sky,
Ten Thousand on the sea;
For every wave with dimpled face,
That leaped upon the air,
Had caught a star in its embrace,
And held it trembling there.
