A GHOST'S GARDEN @ MIDNIGHT

PRINTS AVAILABLE ON ETSY

A Ghost's garden at midnight: unkept, purposely, for a garden planted by human, supernatural, the birds and the bees was the best garden to have. Its wild beauty was unmatched by any other properly maintained garden specimen. Florence loved it that way, and so did his visitors who came.

On hot summer nights, Florence's favorite thing to do was to stroll barefoot in the garden and breathe in the flower's sweet perfume. Every once in a while, clover magically appears between his toes. Florence was amused by how the clover always wanted to dress his feet.

BAT TUB

Bat, bathing in the moonlight, at midnight, in the dark, in the woods, alone.

My daughter hijacked my painting; no stars, no flowers, no more cats, and no ghosts. Maybe, Halloween? She named it Bat Tub.

Night Sun 🌻

Night Sun

The garden has become quiet and gone to sleep. The season in the sun is running out of time: yet, this little night sun tells me something else.

Just not ready for the end of summer.

Happiness is A Bat...PipistrelloπŸ¦‡πŸˆ

Happiness is A Bat...Pipistrello

I read a poem by D.H. Lawrence 'BAT', who unfortunately didn't like bats. I shared the same sentiments until my daughter got me to appreciate them on our bonfire nights. Although, I must admit I still do get a bit anxious when they fly a touch too low.

"Bats, and an uneasy creeping in one's scalp
As the bats swoop overhead!
Flying madly."

Lawrence also states in his poem that in China the Bat is a symbol of Happiness.Bat after all is a cat we must not forget but sometimes we do! I suppose half cat and half bat counts for all the happiness he's brought us πŸ¦‡πŸˆ

Along came a bug on October 27th who almost didn't make it. The little bug though looked very much like a tiny bat and so he got the name Bat. Of course, we all have since gone batty ^..^

Couldn't wake up Bat but this other little witch-bird should be sleeping by now.

The Bat
by: Arthur Guiterman (1871-1943)

Airy-mouse, hairy mouse,
Keen-eared contrary mouse,
Come from your cavern--a star's in the sky!
Fluttering, flittering,
Eerily chittering,
Swoop on your quarry, the dusk-haunting fly.

Airy-mouse, wary mouse,
Witch-bird or fairy-mouse,
Soft through the shadow the dawn-glimmer steals;
Night's your carousing-time,
Day brings your drowsing-time;
Hence to your hollow and hang by your heels!

*** Listen to The Music of The Night ***

A while back I wrote this poem and one of the inspirations for writing it came from the story of "The Spider and The Fly by Mary Howitt.

Of course what goes beautifully with this story is the amazing artwork of Tony DiTerlizzi http://www.diterlizzi.com/

Listen,to the music of the night!
What joy it brings,
From somewhere,in the distant sight,
An echo of fond embrace, it carries on starry strings,
A beautiful song it sings.

And to the music, dance the twiggy limbs of trees,
While a spider looms black enchantment of his polished entangle,
Within the tree’s benighted leafy eaves,
Preparing for its unwary guest, secretly to strangle
Without an uttered sigh, he waits and dangles.

And all the while beneath his watch, beneath moon-beams,
A lonely heart broods mutely in treasured thought,
Basked in the afterglow of summer dreams,
Encircled by the light of impassioned fireflies, once caught,
It lingers in the twilight, conceiving of all that is now lost, that once had fiercely sought

And to the spider’s delicious delight,
At long last, his guest has arrived,
Within the finery of his home’s sweet lite,
This ballroom he so ingeniously contrived,
Will undeniably see his innocent one , will have not, the night survived.

artwork by Tony DiTerlizzi

Lonely is the heart that wonders,
Of the hour that was day
Of the hour that is night, of the hours torn asunder
Of a life that has gone by and now is gray
Of a life that now has all decayed.

artwork Walt Disney

*** Alternate Ending *** for the Light Side

Oh but, sweet hour of the dawning,
Now gone is the hour of the night,
Now heart, look upon thy mourning, yawning
To the birdsong on the wind of light
Rising high above the trees, on a web of crystal white

Twilight at Sea

The Twilight Hours like birds flew by,
As lightly and as free;
Ten thousand stars were in the sky,
Ten Thousand on the sea;
For every wave with dimpled face,
That leaped upon the air,
Had caught a star in its embrace,
And held it trembling there.
