Self Portrait of The Romantic Artist

Annabel Lee

Once upon a Time …

…there lived a little girl by the sea who longed to live in a far away land of pastures, forests and sea.
As she grew up her dream never ceased but intensified to an ultimate most for not a day passed that her mind did not think of the secret place hidden from all!
She dreamed of finding a beautiful very old home made of stone with a roof made out of grass and windows that sparkled like diamonds by the light of the candlelight or of the sun ….in their fractured beauty and timeless fashion; they would set the stage for a magical place for her to reflect in the moment.
There in a mossy glen concealed from the eye of the lively crowds, she nestles inside on cold evening nights and reads all of her favorite poetry and learns of the artists she so much enjoys being inspired by in creating her art. By the roaring hearth sunk in a chair three times larger than her with two furry companions, one on her lap and the other by the side of her chair she can’t think of a better place to be on this earth.
From her top bedroom window she rises each morn to the soft song of the wrens and the cooing of morning doves and looks out to the bay of the romantic surfing shore and dreams of a captain or pirate arriving ,whatever her mood ,she so does , for the day, after all is her very own dream. Days spent by the shore collecting seashells, tiny small stars and opaque sea foam glass and maybe a treasure or two lost to someone out there, who knows for each day would bring adventure , intrigue and a breath of supreme happy intuition.. Oh what pleasures this sort of world would be…if only

About a little less then a year ago I discovered a nurturing and inspiring artist group through a gal named SuziBlu. I have wanted to be an artist forever but can’t draw too well and of course I am an incurable romantic at heart. Through Suzi’s class I discovered once again my love for art and that I could actually do a bit of drawing.

Reaching mid life means doing something extravagant and I think mine is art for I am totally drawn to it presently and collect complete pleasure and fulfillment from it. I don’t have the tools or the special creative studio space some enjoy but I am getting there slowly.

I now have an addiction to digital graphics as well as my altered art, photography and stain glass, just to name a few of my art explorations. Art is very therapeutic and great for anyone who so is inclined to try their hand at it. I promise you’ll find some happiness in it for sure.

The little story above is of me of course and it tells of all of the luvs and dreams I have. From Fairytales, poetry, England and the sea to old lace, old stone homes and hearths , big comfy chairs, old books and old tales, spiders and webs….of more than one kind…hehe , captains , ghosts , pirates , treasures, gardens and secrets and an obsession with an old movie entitled “The Collector”…probably the root to my adoring England so much!

This drawing of a girl was my first attempt and although I never finished “Doria”… her hair is not complete nor her face, basically Doria! I gave her another chance and integrated her into my digital collage. In a way the design characterizes the elements of what I stand for and luv…tattered, old, used, unfinished, beauty found in the rough and imperfect world. OOh and the name Annabelle....husband gave it to me when I was 19 years old , he knew I luved Annabel Lee { the poem} and Poe and the sea and my birth name is Anna so he nicknamed me Annabelle.

In the end the vision of the artist you gather is that of one old gal who has an unending passion for the country, the sea, solitude, England and of the long gone past. A gal who finds beauty in the most of unlikely places.
Now you know a little bit more about me……

Twilight at Sea

The Twilight Hours like birds flew by,
As lightly and as free;
Ten thousand stars were in the sky,
Ten Thousand on the sea;
For every wave with dimpled face,
That leaped upon the air,
Had caught a star in its embrace,
And held it trembling there.
