*** Where Have All the Flowers Gone ? ***

RIP Mary Travers November 9 1936- September 16th 2009

Another star soars high into the Deep Blue Skies…

It has certainly been a sad summer of 2009.... So much of my past is swiftly fading away.
I feel time fleeting by so quickly now!

I remember back when I was expecting my son some twenty years ago I happen to come across a stuffed green dragon with a windup key that played to my surprise “Puff
the Magic Dragon”. The name “ Puff” always appealed to me and not because of its controversial message some thought it conveyed but the fact that the dragon story by the sea was just too darn cute and had a lovely lullaby.
Whatever its allure was, one thing was for certain, I was nearing days to my first baby’s arrival and I was very anxious and scared and the song had this wonderful quality of alleviating my stress.
The price was quite high when I reflect back to what it cost me but in the end it helped many a night put Ty to sleep and later on Em , yes even mom and dad.

Then suddenly one day the dragon vanished without a trace and we wondered curiously to its mysterious disappearance.
A few years passed without Puff when on a movie night visit to the neighbors to watch ‘Little foot” the kids returned with the news that their beloved dragon was finally found.
The kids across the way had fallen in luv with Puff as well and couldn’t recall where Puff came from or what the name of the tune was that he played. But upon verification of his birthmark, an exposed music box where once Ty and Em had tried to uncover the source of the enlightening lullaby there was no question has to who the dragon belonged to.

So, Puff the Magic Dragon is close to each one of our hearts in this home and many other homes as well for everyone has a soft spot for Puff in their heart.
Peter, Paul and Mary were beautiful and very wonderful storytellers of an era much in turmoil but very much in love and their music eased a great deal of the pain in so many of us when we needed it most.

Twilight at Sea

The Twilight Hours like birds flew by,
As lightly and as free;
Ten thousand stars were in the sky,
Ten Thousand on the sea;
For every wave with dimpled face,
That leaped upon the air,
Had caught a star in its embrace,
And held it trembling there.
